Bare Bones

After acquiring an ex tour bus in Far North Queensland, the transformation to mobile home could begin. The first steps of the Bus conversion involved removing the 21 passenger seats and the floor mounted heaters. After installing a new passenger seat (this was one of the hardest steps and took many months), the engineer could then sign off on the seat modification plates.

The exterior roof was then coated in ceramic paint and insulation installed inside the Bus. This would aid in reducing the internal temperature when in the hot tropics, as well as retaining heat when in colder climates.

After this was complete the floor boards were laid, wall panelling installed, and the furniture framework begun. The bench, couch, and cupboards are all constructed out of qubelok; a lightweight aluminium building material that is connected via plastic joiners. The bedframe is made from upcycled aluminium and rests on hydraulic struts. This lightweight, liftable frame allows for easy access to storage below the bed.

  • Step 2

Insulation installed on the ceiling, walls and floor.

  • Step 3

Installing the floor boards and qubelok framework.
